Battery Cell & BMS Qualification

Independent battery qualification, built by engineers who've procured cells.

Independent qualification, not a datasheet. We source and vet 18650, 21700 cylindrical, and pouch cells — plus custom BMS — on cycle life, thermal safety, and real test data, then take it further with pack design and build and equipment agency. For teams too small for a tier-1 direct account, and too critical for the broker market.

01How it works

A qualification protocol, not a sales pitch.

The same four-step protocol our engineers used qualifying cells and BMS on production lines — applied to your supplier before you commit a purchase order.

STEP 01

Intake spec

Cell format (18650, 21700, pouch), target cycle life, energy density, and BMS protection requirements — captured before any vendor is contacted.

STEP 02

Certification & documentation audit

UN38.3 transport-safety and IEC 62133 cell-safety test reports, ISO 9001 / UL documentation, and factory audit records — verified against the actual report, not a claim on a spec sheet.

STEP 03

Sample & cycle-test verification

Physical samples checked against claimed cycle life, thermal-runaway margin, and — for BMS — protection-circuit accuracy and cell-balancing performance.

STEP 04

Qualified introduction

A de-risked handoff to the supplier — priced by quote or service fee, agreed before you commit, whatever form that engagement takes.

Hard-to-find cell & BMS component sourcing

Locate non-catalog 18650, 21700, and pouch cell suppliers, and custom BMS components — from R&D builds to production volumes below tier-1 direct-account thresholds. The demand distributors won't stock and cell makers won't allocate.

Battery cell & BMS technical qualification

Vet suppliers on technical merit — cycle life, energy density, thermal-runaway margin, protection-circuit accuracy, samples, and certification (UN38.3, IEC 62133) — so you don't qualify a broker chain or get burned on a cell that fails in the field. Available as a one-time engagement or annual re-qualification — certs expire and factories drift.

03Why independent

Independent qualification, disclosed fee.

We don't manufacture cells. Our engagements are priced by quote or service fee — the structure depends on the project, agreed with you before you commit. The team has built battery and grid-storage production lines, so we know which spec actually predicts failure, which vendor can really hit cycle-life claims, and what a BMS misses under real load. You pay to be right, not just connected. And when procurement or leadership asks why this supplier, you hand them the qualification file — not a broker's word.

Engineers who've built battery lines, not just sourced for them.

Our team has built cell and pack production lines and qualified battery materials at battery and grid-storage manufacturers across North America and Asia. When we qualify a cell or BMS vendor, it's on technical merit we earned on the factory floor — not a datasheet we forwarded.

05FAQ

Battery & BMS sourcing questions, answered.

Where can I source 18650, 21700, or pouch cells when volumes are below a cell maker's direct-account threshold?

VoltaMission locates non-catalog and R&D through mid-production volume cylindrical (18650, 21700) and pouch cell suppliers that distributors and marketplaces won't handle — qualifying the vendor on technical merit and handing over a de-risked introduction across North America and Asia.

Why can't we get a direct account with a major cell manufacturer?

Tier-1 cell makers allocate capacity to automotive and grid-scale contracts with MOQs in the millions of cells and multi-year commitments. Below that threshold, you're routed to distributors and broker chains — where lot provenance, cell grade, and cert validity become your risk. VoltaMission qualifies the suppliers who will serve your volume, on the same technical criteria a tier-1 account would demand.

Can you qualify a second source for a cell we already use?

Yes. Second-source qualification — matching an incumbent cell's electrical and thermal behavior closely enough that your pack and BMS don't need redesign — is one of the most common engagements for teams in production. We verify against your incumbent's measured performance, not just its datasheet.

How do you qualify a custom BMS supplier beyond a datasheet?

We verify protection-circuit accuracy (over/under-voltage, over-current), cell-balancing performance, SOC/SOH estimation quality, and functional-safety documentation against real test data and samples — not marketing claims.

Are you a battery manufacturer or reseller?

Not a cell manufacturer. Depending on what a project needs, we engage as an independent qualification service, a sourcing or pack-build partner, or an authorized-channel component and equipment agent — the fee structure (quote or service fee) is agreed with you before you commit.

Do you also design and build battery packs, or act as an equipment agent?

Yes. Alongside cell and BMS qualification, we handle pack architecture, BMS integration, and assembly through production handoff, and we work as a sourcing partner or authorized agent for battery-manufacturing equipment — priced by quote or service fee, depending on the engagement.

What certifications should a battery cell or BMS supplier have?

At minimum UN38.3 (transport safety) and IEC 62133 (cell/battery safety); UL 1642, UL 2054, or UL 2580 and ISO 9001 depending on application. We verify these against actual test reports, not a claim on a spec sheet.

How do North American teams source cells or BMS from Asia safely?

Technically qualified supplier shortlists, overseas-side QC, and bilingual (English / Mandarin) negotiation — removing the language, distance, and trust barriers.

Do you source battery test equipment or R&D materials too?

Yes. Beyond cells and BMS, we source and qualify battery test and lab equipment (cyclers, environmental and thermal-safety test chambers) and small-quantity R&D battery materials (electrode, electrolyte, separator).
